How did your interest in art begin? Was it something that you were brought up surrounded by or did it come to you later on?

I have never given up my interest in expressing certain experiences through paintings. What art is has never played a role; it was the aura of specific places and unusual artifacts that gave me the feeling of indeterminate, mystical depth. This feeling and its associated curiosity to recreate it has never left me.

What drives you and your work? What’s your main motivation to go to the studio every morning and paint?

Each painting induces the other; each step raises new questions or unleashes new substance. It is the curiosity and the unsolved mysteries why I never lose interest.

How do you cope with the alone time in your studio?

Of course, I enjoy it very much, but when things are different, I invite guests over or procrastinate on Instagram.

Is the environment in which you paint important to you, or are you thinking up projects no matter where you are?

The space in which the paintings are created is crucial. Everything that surrounds me is important and influences my work. I try to avoid repetitive patterns in my work and to always react to circumstances in new ways.

Looking at the body of your work, what do you think are the touchstones that people associate it with? What do you hope they are?

I think most people find the colors particularly beautiful. People who have the opportunity to devote themselves intensively to a painting, will perceive the depth that lies within them. I hope that this revelation will stay with them. They should sharpen their awareness of the invisible.

What role does chance play in your work? Or do you know early on how you want the result to look like?

Time is the decisive element of my works, to take time. Nothing happens coincidentally, but neither is anything planned. The prevalent unconsciousness is incessantly working on solutions; my expression materializes by subsuming the moments right when they can be revealed.

Musicians and theatre actors have direct feedback from the audience. How do you experience the effect of your art on people?

Although the work does not suggest it at first, it is quite ambiguous. The paintings demand submergence. They function only partially as bold, striking works. With this distinction, I position myself.

If you could script your career, what sort of projects would you want to be doing next? Do you have any unfinished / unrealized projects you’d like to work on?

I've been working on a book for some time. I am also preparing an institutional exhibition.
If I could script it, I would like to reserve a room in the Kolumba Museum for next year ^^
